1. Identification and notification

As soon as an event is notified to the BEA, the duty team takes initial measures and launches the investigative process.

In France, a Field Officer goes to the accident site immediately to preserve and safeguard all items and to make initial observations (photos, urgent samples, first notes on the position of controls and instruments etc.).

According to the information notified and the first contacts between the investigator and the duty team, a decision is taken as to whether a BEA investigator or a BEA team is dispatched immediately. According to the type of case, investigations are conducted by a specially designated investigator, possibly backed up by a team of investigators or investigative assistants, or by the duty team with the assistance of the Field Investigator.
