Examination of instruments and parts

In order to determine the causes of an accident, it is sometimes essential to ascertain what certain instruments or parts of the aircraft were indicating, or their condition, before the event.

The BEA Technical Division generally carries out a first examination. Some work can be performed by the Division, such as metallurgical examination with the electron microscope.

The BEA also calls on specialised organisations attached to the Ministry of Defence :

· the Saclay Engine Test Centre (CEPr)
· the Bretigny Flight Test Centre (CEV)
· the Toulouse Aeronautical Test Centre (CEAT)
