Accident in Irkutsk on 9 July 2006

Following the accident that occurred on 9 July 2006 in Irkutsk (Russia) to the Airbus A310 from Russian airline Sibir, registered F-OGYP, the BEA confirms that, in accordance with the provisions of international agreements, three investigators from the BEA and advisers from Airbus have been sent to participate in the investigation conducted by the Russian authorities.

The BEA is liaising with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and with the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC), the aircraft being registered in France.

Note that it is the responsibility of the Russian organisation leading the technical investigation to communicate information on the circumstances and the causes of the accident.

The BEA recommends avoiding drawing any hasty conclusions in relation to investigations that are under way. Experience has shown that such conclusions are often unfounded.
