Accident near Sochi on 2 May 2006

The BEA is participating in the technical investigation into the accident that occurred on 2 May 2006 off the coast of Sochi (Russia) to the Airbus A320 operated by the Armenian airline Armavia. In accordance with the provisions of international agreements, this investigation is being led by the organisation responsible for technical investigations in Russia.

A first BEA go-team is travelling to the accident site today, accompanied by advisors from Airbus.

Note that it is the responsibility of the organisation leading the technical investigation to communicate information on the circumstances and the causes of the accident.

The BEA recommends avoiding drawing any hasty conclusions in relation to investigations that are under way. Experience has shown that such conclusions are often unfounded.
