The BEA has sent a team to the site of the accident that occurred in Venezuela on August 16 2005 to the Boeing McDonnell Douglas MD82 operated by West Caribbean Airways, registered HK-4374X, flight WCW 708, which was en route from Panama City to Fort de France (Martinique).

In accordance with the provisions of Annex 13 to the convention on International Civil Aviation, known as the Chicago convention, the technical investigation into the accident will be conducted by Venezuela.

In accordance with international regulations, the release of technical information relating to the accident and developments in the investigation is the responsibility of the Venezuelan authorities.
